Visual Arts Camp

The Years 9 to 11 Camp on Arthur Boyd’s property, Bundanon immerses students in art processes and culture.  Mrs Elizabeth Owen, Head of Visual Arts, explained “Art Camp is a wonderful learning opportunity as it relates to the practical and theory component of the Syllabus, applies to all Secondary artmaking programmes and is linked to their critical and historical case studies.  The HSC Body of Work requirements are also discussed; development of conceptual and material practice, decision making and project management skills.”

Activities included painting landscapes, creating natural sculptures inspired by environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy, indigenous storytelling and weaving a rope or string out of natural reeds.  A tour of Boyd’s house, studio and art works was another highlight, with Genevieve Smith (Year 11) sharing:  “We gained insightful detail into the life of Arthur Boyd and a deeper understanding of his work and the reasoning behind it.  From studying Boyd’s work to seeing each piece in real-life, we became more motivated to learn about his practice and improve on our own.”
